Martin Whitfield MP has attended the AGM of local family project, First Step, and given his support to its fundraising efforts ahead of its 30th anniversary celebrations next year.
First Step offers a mix of groups and classes for parents in the Musselburgh, Wallyford and Whitecraig area, with around 300 families a year accessing its services.
A ‘Friends of First Step’ scheme was launched at the AGM and Martin is urging anyone who wants to support the project’s important work to join it and make a regular donation.
Speaking after the AGM, Martin Whitfield MP said:
“First Step is an excellent service and I was pleased to be able to attend its AGM again this year and hear about latest on its work. It is a really valued local projects which provides a mix of important services for local parents.
“I know that while East Lothian Council provides it with core funding and support, resources are tight, and the project is having to do a lot of fundraising to keep up its work. This includes the new Friends of First Step scheme which I have signed up for and am encouraging others to consider doing too.
“However, while funding is clearly vital, the project is also looking for other help including volunteering time or support in kind to support its activities. Anyone who can offer their assistance should get in touch with project co-ordinator Tina Pollock.”
