Martin Whitfield MP has urged the Government to avoid East Lothian constituents having to pay mobile phone roaming charges in other parts of Europe in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

Mr Whitfield raised his question during a statement on the issue prompted by an Urgent Question from Shadow Culture Secretary, Tom Watson MP.

It followed confirmation that if the UK leaves the EU without a deal, UK consumers will lose the hard-won right to avoid mobile phone roaming charges enjoyed by EU members.

Martin Whitfield MP said:

“We should be under no illusions that a no-deal Brexit will have a detrimental impact on various aspects of our daily lives, including hard-won consumer rights such as those on mobile phone roaming charges.

“A responsible Government should be doing everything possible to avoid the disaster of a no-deal Brexit and the devastation it will cause to our economy and for consumers. Sadly the Government seems more intent on playing political brinksmanship than
