Martin Whitfield MP has joined in the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Lothian Mineworkers Convalescent Home, Whatton Lodge, during its open week to mark the major milestone.
The county’s MP visited the Lodge during the open week, which included an Art Exhibition, showing the work of renowned Scottish artist Moira Maitland (1936 – 2004).
During the week the paintings were hung throughout the magnificent Lodge house, with some of the proceeds of sales of the artwork going towards funding the Lodge and its work.
Martin Whitfield MP said:
“It’s always a pleasure to visit Whatton Lodge, which continues to provide such an important service for former miners and their families. The 10 day breaks it offers, with arguably one of the most beautiful views anywhere in East Lothian, are invaluable to those who take them.
“I enjoyed the opportunity to help everyone involved with the Lodge continue with the celebrations for its remarkable 70th anniversary and wish them further success with promoting the Lodge and its important work.”
