Martin Whitfield MP has attended Dalkeith and Monktonhall Brass Band’s thirtieth anniversary concert at Prestonpans Community centre.
The band can trace its roots back to 1890, while its connection to Prestonpans and East Lothian goes back over a hundred years. The current band was formed in 1989 when the Dalkeith Burgh and Monktonhall Colliery bands amalgamated.
Speaking after the event, Martin Whitfield MP said:
“Dalkeith and Monktonhall Brass Band has been a much-loved and respected fixture at local events and activities for many years.
“As always, they showed great technical skill and the anniversary concert in part revisited some of the music played at the National Brass Band Championships.
“It was a delight to be able to chat to organisers and band members, some who have crossed the Atlantic and found a place in the band.”
