Martin Whitfield MP has welcomed the publication of the Association of Convenience Stores Local Shops Report 2019 highlighting the important contribution of local shops in East Lothian and across the UK.

The report states that there are 80 local shops in East Lothian employing more than 700 people. Across the UK, 405,000 people are employed in the convenience store sector.

Martin Whitfield MP said:

“I welcome the ACS Local Shop Report which demonstrates the valuable role that convenience stores play here in East Lothian and in communities throughout the UK.

“East Lothian’s towns and villages have many fantastic local shops working incredibly hard to provide excellent service to their local community.

“They also provide employment for more than 700 local people, and I thank all of the shopkeepers and staff for their commitment to our communities.”
