Martin Whitfield MP has highlighted the contribution of the Glenkinchie distillery in East Lothian and asked what representations Ministers are making to the US during an Urgent Question in the Commons on the introduction of tariffs on single malt Scotch whisky.

Martin Whitfield MP said:

“Last week’s announcement that the US is set to impose 25 per cent tariffs on the import of single malt Scotch whisky from 18 October was a significant blow to the industry and its supply chain.

“I was pleased to see the issue raised as an Urgent Question in the Commons yesterday which provided an opportunity to question the Government on their response to the news.

“I took the opportunity to ask the International Trade Minister what representations he is making to try and secure a change in this policy to protect the Scotch whisky industry, including Glenkinchie here in East Lothian.”
