Martin congratulates Thistle Awards finalists

Martin Whitfield MP has welcomed the success of six county businesses in reaching the regional finals of this year's prestigious Scottish Thistle Awards. Organised by VisitScotland, the awards honour individuals, businesses, partnerships and events for their innovation, excellence and success in the hospitality and tourism sector. Government urged to act on whisky tariffs

Following the news that the US Government will impose steep new tariffs on Scotch whisky, Martin Whitfield MP is backing calls for the UK Government to act immediately to do all it can to ensure the US reverses the decision. Karen Betts, chief executive of the Scotch Whisky Association, has described the move to impose a 25% import tariff on all single malts into the United States and also all Scotch whisky liqueurs as a "serious situation for the industry". Martin signs pledge for a better Parliament

Today Martin Whitfield MP joined with other MPs to sign a pledge for a new code of conduct for behaviour in the House of Commons. The code of conduct includes commitments to avoid language or behaviour that incites hate or encourages disrespect, reform debate as a way to build consensus and uphold a level of respect and professionalism. BBC decision on Naga Munchetty welcomed

Martin Whitfield MP has welcomed BBC director general Lord Hall's reversal of a decision to partially uphold a complaint against Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty. The announcement came after Lord Hall told staff that the presenter's words were not "sufficient to merit a partial uphold" of the complaint against her. Attending Climate Change Rally

Martin Whitfield MP has attended today's East Lothian Rise Up! Climate Change Rally ouside East Lothian Council's HQ on Court Street in Haddington.
